I was born in San Francisco. I grew up loving California's bay area region where I was surrounded by wide vistas of agricultural fields and fruit and nut orchards, living in one of the first neighborhoods in the Santa Clara Valley in the early 1950’s. The beautiful city of San Francisco, the green rolling foothills, the Santa Cruz mountain range and the northern California coastal beaches, rivers and forests were an inspiration to me as a young artist. I have been a painter all my life. I started out drawing and painting things from my imagination on a big roll of newsprint down our family home’s long central hall way when I was very young. I signed up for every art class I could as I went through my school years and in high school I excelled in my art classes. I was encouraged by my art teacher/mentor to go to art school. My family could not afford to send me to art school in San Francisco. In 1973 I attended San Jose State University, majoring in fine art. I continued to draw and paint as I started a family with my very supportive husband, Scott, in 1981. We moved from the bay area in 1989 to the central valley of California, landing in a small rural town where my husband and I raised our 2 daughters. I started my own art based company in 1991 called “By Hand”. My business still keeps me busy today, taking me all over California executing faux treatments and murals for residential and commercial clients. All the while I have kept painting…moving to oils and then plein air oils in the last 20 years. I now combine oils and collage techniques with sometimes found road trash to create my pieces. I consider myself mainly a self taught artist...from years of personal exploration.
